Modern-day slavery poses an immense challenge to our society. As a highly lucrative industry dominated by powerful criminals, it pits rescuers against these exploiters in a relentless battle to save vulnerable young people from this scourge.
Luring youths under false pretenses has become alarmingly common.
In Bihar's evolving landscape, where girls are increasingly pursuing education and venturing into the wider world, they often lack awareness of its dangers. Parental guidance and accompaniment are frequently absent, while young people resist advice from elders. Caught in this dilemma, they stray and fall prey to opportunistic predators.
This young girl was enticed with a job promise by a friend from her own village.
Educated but naive, she accompanied her friend to explore Patna. Before long, tickets were booked, and they arrived in Jaipur. After several days, a deal was finalized: the girl was sold to a 45-year-old man for 2 lakhs and forced into marriage.
Throughout this ordeal, persistent phone calls were made to the SHO and DSP demanding the girl's release. Regular visits to her village in Naubatpur added pressure on officials to track progress. After prolonged efforts, with mounting insistence from her father and our organization, a police team accompanied him to Jaipur.
The girl was located and liberated from her forced marriage.
Shockingly, the man who "married" her was released without charges—likely due to another illicit deal.
She was brought back to Patna and held at the Naubatpur police station until undergoing a medical examination and providing her statement before a lady magistrate.
The investigating officer pressured her to withhold her account, claiming it would ruin her future.
We intervened, meeting with her to understand her experience, encouraging her to speak truthfully. She grasped the importance and resolved to do so.

On the third day, she appeared in Danapur court, where her statement was recorded. When asked whom she wished to accompany, she chose her father.
Finally released, she returned home, but much work remains to help her heal from the trauma and rebuild her life.
Such incidents are escalating, underscoring the urgent need to safeguard our girls and young women from this pervasive threat.
