Aashray Abhiyan’s Advocacy: Prompt Government Action!

Successful Advocacy is a built up of a series of important actions. In our continuing struggle for social justice for the urban  poor, displaced and marginalized workforce, a  small yet significant success story:

Dilip Kumar, senior team leader of the Ashray Abhiyan, had filed a complaint/grievance with the Chief Minister of Bihar regarding the closure of the Labor Resources Department, Bihar's portal, due to which construction workers were unable to receive benefits from any schemes.

The Chief Minister's Secretariat, vide reference no. 2025048906, issued a directive to the Labor Resources Department for prompt action. Following the directive from the Chief Minister's Secretariat, the Assistant Labor Commissioner, Ghanshyam Ravidas, of the Labor Resources Department has launched a new portal, which is now operational.

In the aforementioned letter no. 136 dated 06/02/26, the Assistant Labor Commissioner has clearly stated that online applications for registration and schemes have been continuously received from 22/02/2026 until now, and their disposal is being carried out by the concerned officials.

With the support of Ashray Abhiyan, the names of 106 people from the Sahgaddi Masjid Slum in Ward No. 9 under Patna Municipal Corporation have been included in the survey list of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban).

The names of 65 to 70 people could not be added to the survey list for some reason. The reason why these 65-70 people's names could not be added will be investigated from the Patna Municipal Corporation, Nutan Rajdhani Anchal, and the work of getting them added to the survey list will be done by the workers of Ashray Abhiyan.

It is worth noting that the work of constructing a 4-lane road by filling the Serpentine Nala from Patel Golambar via Harding Road has commenced.

The construction of the 4-lane road poses a threat of displacement to these slum dwellers. In this situation, it is essential for the names of all slum dwellers to be included in the survey list of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

This inclusion is vital for the urban poor who are living in the area, so that Aashray Abhiyan’s advocacy efforts with the Bihar government to provide alternative housing for them is successful.
