Monitoring the night shelters ensuring that the shelters are operational as per the demands of the government guidelines is part of the role that I am called to play.
This time I decided to visit the shelters at Bhaktiarpur and Barh about 70 kms away from Patna.
On reaching Bhaktiarpur, the Executive Officer and the entire team were present to welcome us.
We sat exchanged ideas about how things were moving and why the delay?
The open dialogue discussion was a way of building confidence among the officials who felt that we were in a position to listen to their struggles.
We also discussed with the EO how the shelter would be managed.
The preliminary step of identifying the women from the ALO has begun.
It was heartening to know that.
At Barh, it was a temporary shelter – German Hangar, we were surprised to find how well the shelter was maintained.
The women who were present were filled with hope enthusiasm and it was evident that they were ready to take the right step forward.
The shelters in Patna at Gai ghat and Chotti pahadi were also visited along with the DMC.
Some of the things which were not in place were addressed to the caretakers and Managers.
Efforts have been made to ensure that the shelters are well maintained, facilities are well taken care of.
Those who visit the shelters should feel that they are respected as human beings.
