Rising Waters, More Homeless People!
From the third of September onwards, the rising flood situation in Patna has become a cause for concern, especially for those who are homeless and live in makeshift shelters in what is usually low-lying areas of the city.
In Adalatganj, as well as in other areas, water from the Ganges has crept in, inundating the low-lying areas.
One of our tailoring centres have also been affected.
Families had to abandon their homes and are now huddled along any available stretch of land.
Sister Dorothy messages: For the past three days, we have been feeding nearly 300 people with cooked food: 'puri subzi'. The community at Adaltghat has been submerged.... people have no place for safety. On Thursday (3 Sept) we met the commissioner of the Patna Municipal Corporation apprised him of the situation but there was no immediate response. So we stepped into action...
Today (September 5) the Circle Officer visited the site. Later we furnished a list to give plastic sheets. 60 plastic sheets were distributed by Aashray Abhiyan team....

They took out their valuable time, along with their team, and visited the poor and helpless people of Adalat Ghat Babu Tola and the surrounding areas. They inquired about their well-being. Seeing that the water level of the Ganga river is continuously rising, they immediately assessed the situation and provided plastic sheet tarpaulins.
The situation is fast developing as more heavy rains add to the rising waters.
