The street vendors around the historic Gandhi Maidan and Kargil Chowk have been hunted as if they are terrorists.
What shocked us is the decision that the area is declared as no vending zone. This is the area known as the lungs of Patna, frequented by the ordinary citizens and their children for rest and relaxation.
The people enjoy the affordable snacks or toys hawked by the street vendors. This has been going on for more than a hundred years.
Now, suddenly, What happens to those who have been vending on this public space for more than 5 decades?
After putting up a fight with those who came to evict them, soon I realized that it won't stop. So along with Sudershan, Aashray Abhiyan's worker and two vendors, we met the Executive Officer of the Patliputra circle, she gave us two days as breathing space.
We promised to meet the Patna Divisional Commissioner and find a solution.
To our Good fortune, we had suggested a committee to be constituted to find a resolution.
The DC met us and listened to us.
He ordered that the ADM would connect with me.
So... this has been the battle... half won... but there will be more to follow!
