International Labour Day is also celebrated as the Feast of Saint Joseph The Worker, and this day is of the utmost importance to the unorganised workers and their families whom we serve.
The build-up and community awareness to May Day was going on in our settlements as well, where our women team members raised awareness with the focus women on the new labour codes and how they affect their lives and livelihood.

Team member Ranjit Kumar reports: Today, on 01/05/2026, after arriving at Munna Chowk in the morning, I met with our fellow workers. We held a discussion regarding International Labour Day, where I shared information about workers' rights in the context of this labour festival.
Following this, members of the Unorganised Construction Workers’ Wing arrived at the square and expressed their desire to join the programme. Consequently, I participated in the Labour Day event, which commenced with the singing of a labour anthem.

The workers raised several demands, including the withdrawal of the four labour codes, a strict 8-hour working day, and fair wages.
Discussions were also held regarding the hardships faced by our fellow workers due to the closure of the government portal, which has prevented them from accessing various welfare schemes. It was urged that the portal be reopened immediately so that workers can receive their entitled benefits.
After these deliberations, the meeting concluded with workers chanting slogans such as "Get organised, stay aware, step forward for your rights" and "Long live workers' unity!"
Meanwhile, on the occasion of International Labour Day, a street meeting was organised at Masaurhi Labour Chowk under the leadership of Dharmendra Kumar, a colleague from the Ashray Abhiyan.

During the event, educated workers including Pramod Kumar, Santosh Das Kharrat, and Manish Kumar (from Koriawa Garh) addressed the gathered labourers.
They spoke about their legal rights and the various government welfare schemes available, such as the benefits of obtaining a Labour Card and the importance of educating their children. They raised their voices with the slogans: "We are workers, not helpless" and "Workers of the world, unite!"
