Social Exposure for Teacher Trainees
St. Xavier’s College of Education, Patna, in collaboration with Aashray Abhiyan held a special three-day social awareness exercise for their first year students. As part of the three-day workshop, the students received valuable inputs on rights and ground reality, with special reference to unorganized and migrant workers, street vendors, and slum inhabitants of Patna.
It concluded on July 11th, 2026.
The students, who are on their way to a vocation as educators in the near future, experienced for some a ‘close up’ understanding of how life is lived ‘on the other side of the tracks’.
The Principal of SXCE noted that an effective teacher is one who has a deep sense of empathy towards humanity, so that she can create an inclusive and emotionally healthy classroom environment that nurtures and empowers all students, especially those from marginalized and disadvantaged backgrounds.
The students, who visited the communities served by Aashray Abhiyan in groups, later on presented their experiences and learning from the visit.
The sessions were conducted by Sister Dorothy and her team. One of the much appreciated sessions was on Child protection, Human trafficking, and the interventions by Aashray Abhiyan, presented by Aiman Fatima, while Sister Dorothy shared her lived experiences of human trafficking rescues in and around Patna.
This was the first social awareness exposure program conducted by SXCE and Aashray Abhiyan.
